North Walsham is set to benefit from two major developments in early 2026, as North Walsham Phoenix Group (NWPG) prepares to move into larger premises—and the town secures a new Community Banking Hub.
A Growing Charity Needs a Larger Home
Over the past year, NWPG has delivered more than £30,000 in direct support to local households through grants, hardship funds and targeted schemes. This includes providing heated throws to members aged 65 and over, distributing slow cookers to help reduce household energy costs, and supplying essential clothing and household items to families under pressure.
Demand for support has continued to rise, with an expanding membership base, growing social groups and more partner agencies using the Phoenix Building to meet residents. As a result, the charity has outgrown its current home.
To meet this increased need, NWPG will be relocating to Number 1a, St Nicholas Court, a larger, more flexible site offering:
• Additional rooms for support and community activities
• A larger community pantry
• Dedicated space for partner organisations to meet residents
The charity aims to open its new St Nicholas Court site in early January 2026.
Supporting Access to Banking in North Walsham
Throughout 2025, NWPG has been hosting the Lloyds Community Banker, with many residents seeking support for a range of other banks as well. This has clearly demonstrated the need for accessible, face-to-face banking on the high street.
NWPG’s relocation will free its current building to become the home of a new Community Banking Hub, expected to open in 2026 (subject to contracts). The Hub will provide:
• A Post Office-operated counter for cash transactions for customers of all major banks
• A rotating schedule of Community Bankers from multiple providers for more complex services
This ensures that, even with the closure of the town’s final bank, residents and businesses will continue to have access to essential banking support.
Positive News for the Town
The expansion of NWPG and the arrival of the Banking Hub together strengthen essential services in North Walsham and bring new energy into the town centre.
Lucy Shires, Trustee of the Phoenix Group Charity, said:
“Relocating to a larger premises in St Nicholas Court means we can grow the support we offer and work more effectively with our partners. We are pleased that our move enables the arrival of a new community Banking Hub, protecting in-person banking services for North Walsham when they were at risk of disappearing.”
Cash Access UK added:
“We’re extremely grateful to the Phoenix Group Charity for their support in helping us bring a banking hub to the community… Subject to contracts we hope to open in the Spring next year.”
Further updates about the move and reopening will be shared as preparations progress.
